About

The sound

Patrick Topping is a DJ, producer and the founder of Trick, whose house and techno career began with local DJing and promoting in Newcastle. His first set took place at a working men’s club in 2009, followed by years developing his production skills. A release on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax label in 2013 marked his breakthrough as a recording artist. Forget, Be Sharp Say Nowt and the Green Velvet collaboration Voicemail became key records in his catalogue. The partnership with Green Velvet continued through When Is Now and Mad Motion, while Frisk brought him together with Kevin Saunderson. His remix work has included The Streets, Sam Fender, Robyn and Calvin Harris. Trick expanded his work into releasing other artists and programming events. Alongside that label activity, Topping’s own records continued through All The DJs on Solid Grooves in 2025 and Pop That / Boom Shakalak on Hellbent in 2026. His performances have included Glastonbury, Coachella and EDC Las Vegas, extending the club-focused practice he developed in Newcastle.
