PAULA TAPE

About

The sound

Paula Tape is a Chilean DJ and producer whose musical beginnings were behind a drum kit. Growing up in Santiago, she played in heavy metal and electro-indie bands before moving towards DJing in her twenties. New wave, shoegaze and electronic music joined the cumbia, merengue and salsa around her, helping form a sound with a strong emphasis on percussion and rhythmic detail. Her debut EP, Agua Congas, appeared on SOBO in 2018, bringing her own vocals and percussion together with bass played by Lorenzo Morresi. Astroturismo followed in 2021, while releases and remixes connected her with Rhythm Section and Permanent Vacation. Acid Latino arrived in 2024, including Feel 2 Real, De2 Locura and the title track. Radio has given her space to explore music beyond the dancefloor, from Music for Plants on Milan’s Radio Raheem to Astral Jam on Worldwide FM. She also developed Hola Mundo in 2023 as a setting for varied lineups and musical exchange. Across these projects, record collecting and production sit alongside the work of a touring DJ.
