About
The sound
Pete Tong is a British DJ and broadcaster whose radio work has connected club music with a wider listening audience. “Essential Selection” began on BBC Radio 1 in 1991, followed by “Essential Mix” in 1993. The programmes made room for emerging DJs as well as established names, while his work with FFRR Records and mix compilations extended that role beyond broadcasting. His recorded mixes include instalments of “The Annual,” “Dance Nation” and the FFRR “Essential Mix” series. He later moved into orchestral interpretations of dance music with “Classic House” in 2016, working with the Heritage Orchestra and conductor Jules Buckley. “Ibiza Classics,” “Chilled Classics” and “Pete Tong + Friends: Ibiza Classics” continued that collaboration between electronic repertoire and orchestral performance.
