About
The sound
Pirate Copy is the house and tech-house project of Manchester DJ and producer Lee Spence. It began as a planned live act with Jake Dawson and Peter Stanley, then continued for several years as a duo with Jason Herd. By 2018 the partnership had ended and Spence was continuing solo as Pirate Copy. Before Pirate Copy, Spence made classic house under the Ellesse alias and worked at Manchester's Sankeys, where his Kaluki night grew into an events brand and record label. Pirate Copy releases have appeared on Kaluki, elrow, Sola, Moon Harbour and Relief. His records reflect a path from soulful house toward deeper, groove-led club music.
