Richie Hawtin

About

The sound

Richie Hawtin is a British-born, Canadian-raised electronic musician and DJ whose work spans techno, experimental recording and music technology. With John Acquaviva, he established Plus 8, later developing MINUS as a further platform for electronic music. His Plastikman recordings include Sheet One and Spastik, both from 1993, followed by Consumed in 1998. A performance at New York’s Guggenheim in 2013 became the basis for EX, extending the project into a setting shaped by the museum’s architecture. Hawtin’s collaborations have also connected electronic music with visual art and choreography, including work with Anish Kapoor at the Grand Palais in 2011 and Enzo Cosimi for the 2006 Winter Olympics. His interest in performance tools is reflected in PLAYdifferently’s MODEL 1.4 mixer and the Bullfrog synthesizer developed with Erica Synths.
