Romare

About

The sound

Romare is the British producer, musician and DJ Archie Fairhurst. His name refers to the collage artist Romare Bearden, an influence on an approach that combines fragments of recorded music with his own playing. After working as a drummer and guitarist, he began experimenting with turntables and second-hand records in Paris. Meditations On Afrocentrism appeared on Black Acre in 2012. Projections followed on Ninja Tune in 2015, with Love Songs: Part Two arriving in 2016 and Home in 2020. Across those recordings, sampling developed alongside synthesizers, bass, guitars, keyboards and organ, expanding the palette of his early productions. Fantasy, released in 2022 through his own You See label, drew inspiration from 1970s fantasy cinema. His performances have included both band and solo live arrangements, as well as DJ sets. In September 2026 he released the twelve-track album Oblivion.
