About
The sound
Romy Madley Croft is a singer, songwriter and DJ known both for her solo dance music and as the singer and guitarist of The xx. Her solo work took a club-oriented direction with Lifetime in 2020, carrying her voice and songwriting into electronic arrangements. Mid Air, released in 2023, develops that approach across songs including Loveher, Weightless, Strong, Enjoy Your Life and She’s On My Mind. Romy made the album with Fred again.., Jamie xx and Stuart Price, exploring love, loss and identity through music shaped for the dance floor. The project grew from songwriting sessions with Fred again.. that began in 2019; Weightless, for example, started as an acoustic song before finding its electronic form. Her subsequent single Love Who You Love continues the solo catalogue. The combination of intimate vocal writing and dance production gives this work a distinct place alongside her recordings with The xx.
