About
The sound
Rrose connects hypnotic techno with experimental composition and the perception of sound. Active under this name since 2011, the project grew through Sandwell District releases and work with composer Bob Ostertag. The Eaux label later became a home for solo recordings and collaborations.
The albums Hymn to Moisture and Please Touch, released in 2019 and 2023, sit within a catalogue that also includes Vanishing Pools, The Ends of Weather and Arc Unknown. Sustained tones, changing textures and tightly controlled rhythmic movement are central to this approach.
The practice also reaches into acoustic performance: Rrose interpreted James Tenney’s Having Never Written a Note for Percussion for solo gong, and worked with Charlemagne Palestine on music for two grand pianos. Lotus Eater, the collaboration with Lucy, provides another outlet for electronic experimentation.
Dermatology brought Rrose together with Polygonia in 2024. The three-track 2025 release 2 or 3 Drops of Height Have Nothing to do With Savagery followed on T4T LUV NRG. DJ mixes and live recordings, including a Mostra performance and Rrose : 23, document the performance side of this work.
