About
The sound
Sebastian Bayne is an Australian techno DJ, producer and label operator. He took over Melbourne’s IF? Records from Andrez Bergen in 2010, continuing a label established in 1995. His interest in techno developed while studying in the United Kingdom, where he collected vinyl and promoted parties. His career also includes magazine writing and editing, alongside teaching DJing and music production in the UK and Australia.
Bayne developed his DJ practice through residencies in Beijing and performances across China, Hong Kong and Sydney. His recorded archive includes sets at Tresor, Sisyphos and Staub in Berlin, with the latter including an extended vinyl-only closing set. Studio recordings include Two Spirals, Cosmic Whispers Within, Galactic and the album Contorted Self. These productions sit alongside his label work and longer DJ selections, giving listeners several routes into a career that spans making records, presenting them and supporting other producers.
