About

The sound

Sofia Kourtesis is a Peruvian electronic artist based in Berlin. Her catalogue brings club music together with personal storytelling and community concerns. Earlier releases include Sarita Colonia and Fresia Magdalena, followed by the debut album Madres on Ninja Tune in October 2023. Songs from that record include Habla Con Ella, By Your Side and How Music Makes You Feel Better. Volver continues her dedication to queer and trans communities and includes Unidos, made with Daphni. For that collaboration, Daphni contributed drums and developed the arrangement around her original demo. Her recorded DJ work includes a HÖR Berlin set and DJ-Kicks: Sofia Kourtesis, bringing another form of selection alongside her own productions. Across these records and mixes, songwriting, production and DJ programming provide distinct parts of a practice shaped by connections between Peru, Germany and the dance floor.
