About
The sound
Stephan Jolk makes melodic techno built around layered synthesizers, developing rhythms and an emphasis on atmosphere. Returning to Milan became an important point in his musical development, with Aphex Twin and Moderat among the influences he has cited. His studio approach combines analogue textures with melodies that unfold across a track rather than arriving all at once. His Afterlife debut arrived in May 2020 with the Analogy EP. The release placed that melodic approach within the label founded by Tale Of Us, giving an early recorded statement of Jolk’s balance between driving techno and expansive arrangements. Watergate Records released his Freedom EP in April 2022, pairing the title track with “Moonlight Sun.” His recordings also include “Keep Going,” “Seule” and “Addiction,” while his mix archive documents another side of his work through recorded DJ sets.
