Sven Väth

About

The sound

Sven Väth’s career connects several stages of German electronic music, from Frankfurt club culture to techno labels and recorded projects. In 1986 he sang on OFF’s Electrica Salsa, before helping establish the Omen club in 1988. Omen became a setting for his development as a DJ, while his studio work expanded into a series of solo and collaborative releases. He co-founded Harthouse in 1992 and worked with Ralf Hildenbeutel on music including Accident in Paradise. Other projects included Barbarella, Astral Pilot and Metal Masters, each offering a different outlet alongside records released under his own name. Cocoon began as an event concept in 1996 and was relaunched in 1999, extending Väth’s work from the DJ booth into a wider platform for electronic music.
