The Blessed Madonna

About

The sound

The Blessed Madonna is the DJ and producer Marea Stamper. Her work is rooted in house music, and her debut album Godspeed grew from a substantial restart: after shelving an earlier album during the pandemic, she returned to the material and spent three years developing a new record. Godspeed brings a wide range of vocal collaborators into that house-music setting. Its songs include Edge of Saturday Night with Kylie Minogue, We Still Believe with Jamie Principle, Carry Me Higher with Danielle Ponder and Brand New with James Vincent McMorrow and A-Trak. Mercy features Jacob Lusk, while Happier pairs Stamper with Clementine Douglas. Across its 24 tracks, the album places those collaborations beside interludes, connecting the forms of a club record with the breadth of a full-length project. Its development reflects Stamper’s interest in bringing older house textures into dialogue with pop songwriting and less conventional arrangements.
