The sound
Umwelt is a Lyon-based DJ and producer whose electro and techno draw on the French underground rave scene of the early 1990s. He runs New Flesh and Rave Or Die, combining production and label work with vinyl DJ sets and live performances.
His catalogue includes Days of Dissent, Abandon In Place, Superior Life Forms and Subversive Territory. Dead Eyes Society appeared on Monnom Black in 2022, followed by Beyond the Visible Spectrum in 2025. His independent archive also includes Trapped on Earth, Collapsar and Remember The Future (2006–2020).
Current recordings include Digital Ruins with Boris Divider and collaborations with Kmyle on Sparks of Resilience. These sit alongside his own releases and remixes, extending a catalogue built around electro rhythms, darker techno and cinematic textures.
His Ravoluson mix series and recordings from Le Sucre, Tresor and Black Factory document another side of his work. He also shares his experience of production and performance through workshops and meetings.
