Yasmine Hamdan

About

The sound

Yasmine Hamdan is a Lebanese singer, songwriter and producer whose work connects Arabic musical influences with electronic production, soul, pop and guitar-based arrangements. She first emerged through Soapkills, the Beirut indie-electronic duo she co-founded with Zeid Hamdan in the late 1990s. After moving to Paris in 2005, she collaborated with Mirwais as Y.A.S.; their album Arabology followed in 2009. Her solo records Ya Nass and Al Jamilat developed a sound centred on voice, language and contemporary arrangements. She has also worked with filmmakers Elia Suleiman and Jim Jarmusch. Her third solo album, I Remember I Forget, was released in 2025. At Borderline Festival in Athens, she performs in a programme linking Arabic timbres, electronic music and Greek pop.
